A brief overview of some of the key projects we are involved with.
Nord Pool has supported numerous power markets with consultancy on market design, rules development, implementation and IT services connected to robust and efficient operation.
Based on extensive knowledge gained from the Nordic – Baltic and single European markets, coupled with a broad international experience, Nord Pool is a valued partner for any market in transition or which is engaged in a reform process.
Examples of some recent Nord Pool Consulting projects:
- In consultation with local stakeholders and with support from the World Bank, developed a Pilot Short-term Regional Electricity Market in Central Asia, as well as a step-by-step roadmap outlining transition arrangements to move from pilot to fully-fledged market.
- Undertook numerous capacity building programmes, (e.g. for a Brazilian market operator, East Africa Power Pool entities and a Ukrainian major energy company) on the Nordic and European power market, clearing, market surveillance and financial power markets.
- Assisted the National Energy Authority (NEA) of China - providing technical support, capacity building and feedback on the progress of unification of the Chinese electricity market.
- Provided consultancy services for the establishment of an enabling agreement among ASEAN Member States for developing the Multilateral Power Trading and the ASEAN Power Grid Institutions.
- Provided consultancy services for the development of South Africa’s electricity market operator function.
- Provided consultancy and continuation services for the design, implementation and operation of electricity wholesale markets in Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Georgia and, most recently, Iceland.

- Government entities – Shaping policies and strategic frameworks for efficient market development.

- Market and system operators – Supporting the design and operation of robust and efficient power market mechanisms.
- Energy sector companies, potential market participants – General capacity building support on markets and tailored consulting services, as needed.
